Supermarkets/Food Stores

Bahamas Supermarket Sweep

Up and down Eleuthera's 110 miles, there are small towns and villages every five to 10 miles. Each village has its own unique flavor and style. There are no large supermarkets like in the U.S. and the hours are limited compared to what you might be accustomed to back home. Specialty items, exotic spices and food for specific dietary needs such as gluten-free, lactose-free, etc. can be hard to find so you may want to plan on bringing any special items with you. Most food stores are only open for a few hours on Sunday; some stores are not open at all. Many of the guest homes are well stocked with spices, left by the homeowners or previous guests –take a look and see what is on hand before purchasing things such as spices, sugar and flour.
